My name is Kesslyn, but I go by Kess. I was born and raised right here in Colorado Springs. My photography journey started in High School and I primarily enjoyed acrylic painting. But I fancied all aspects of art so much that I took as many creative courses as I could. So, I also studied graphic design, and yes, photography. I still remember my teacher telling me, “You have a really good eye,” when I presented a simple photograph of a fence. I learned then that how I see the world is, perhaps, quite unique. It wasn’t until I received a white Pentax camera for a graduation gift that photography played a role in my life outside of school. I debated selling the camera to get the cash. But I had a trip to Yellowstone planned and decided to hold on to it. Needless to say, I fell in love. I truly enjoyed taking pictures of landscapes and wildlife. My photography was only a small hobby until an important character entered my life.

After a change of events, I received the best friend I could ever imagine. My little dog, Inigo! (Inigo as in, “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” The best movie!) He has this amazing ability in front of the camera! He brought my photography front and center into my life, being the cutest little muse for me. We spend so much time hiking in the mountains together! It’s our favorite pastime. Inigo is known to climb up a rock along the trail, stop at the top, and pose as if to say, “Take my picture here.” So I practiced. I grew to love taking photos more and more. Then, one day, I was approached by a dear friend, requesting me… ME?! to take her senior photos. It was truly a privilege. Taking part in making memories, marking an important milestone with someone was so special! So began my love for working with people in photography.

Along with my photography, I also work part-time as a dental assistant. A job that I enjoy and keeps me on my toes. But my heart lies in my volunteer work. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses I volunteer in Bible education, and I love every minute of it! 

I also enjoy a good cup of coffee, country music, and spending time getting to know people. I think that’s why photography draws me… or more accurately, found me: I get to use my creativity as a way to connect with people and the world around me. What could be better?
